Sushant Singh Rajput was born on January 21, 1986 in Patna city (India). His father K K Singh was a government officer. He has four sisters. Sushant Singh Rajput studied at Karas High School in Patna and further studied at Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Delhi. He got a degree in Mechanical Engineering in Delhi College of Engineering in Delhi. This college is now called Delhi Technological University.

When Sushant Singh Rajput was studying at the Delhi Technological University, he enrolled in Shiamak Davar’s dance class. After joining the class, It came to his mind that he should pursue career in acting. As some students of his dance class also used to go to Baran John’s drama class. The impact of those students also took place on Sushant Singh and he too started going to that class.
On the way, he understood that he could act very well and he was also eager to act.
Within a few months he was included in the Dawar’s dance group. In the 51st Filmfare Awards ceremony held in 2005, Sushant Rajput was also in the group of background dancers. The 2006 Commonwealth Games event was organized in Australia. Cultural programs were organized in it. Rajput was included in that too.
At that time he was tired of studying his engineering and had also failing in the paper and he did not even feel like studying. But at the same time, his interest in dance and drama was going on increasing. Then he decided to leave engineering and started to concentrate fully on dancing and acting.
To work in films, Rajput went to Mumbai and worked for two and a half years in Nadira Babbar’s ‘Ekujut’ theater. During that time, he worked on the television on the Nestle advertisement. That advertisement became very famous all over the country.
